Our Education Mission
Travis Audubon's Education Committee is dedicated to providing
high-quality educational opportunities geared toward environmental
conservation, bird identification, and bird-friendly habitat awareness
for all ages. Here we have listed classes offered in the Austin Area
by organizations with similar interests and focus.

NWF Habitat Stewards Training in September

Help get the City of Austin certified as a Community
Wildlife Habitat.  Travis Audubon is a cosponsor of this
initiative, and we can make a difference in the health and
diversity of our bird life through this program.  Anyone
interested in volunteering is welcome; an interest in
gardening is a plus.

The National Wildlife Federation training  takes place on
four Thursday evenings (September 6, 13, 20 and 27)
and three Saturdays (September 8, 15 and 22)  at
various Austin locations.   It will include field trips and
hands on activities as well as lectures.  The cost is $40.  
Speakers include Alice Nance and Jennifer Ellis from
NWF; Kelly Bender, Urban Wildlife Biologist at Texas
Parks and Wildlife; Mike Quinn, Invertebrate Biologist at
TPWD, Kevin Anderson, Coordinator of the Hornsby
Bend Center for Environmental Research; Elizabeth-
Drozda Freeman, Landscape Designer, Rachel Zammit
Hagan, Horticulturist with Brushy Creek MUD and
representatives from Travis Audubon and Austin Pond
Societies.

Native Trees of Central Texas and Their Associated
Plant Communities

Sept 27 (7 – 9 PM) & Sept 29 (9 – 11 AM), 2007

Society of Texas – Williamson County Chapter. Details

Conservation Groups Host Texas Prairie
Conference

Two Texas conservation groups, the Native Plant Society
of Texas and the Native Prairies Association of Texas,
are hosting a joint annual conference October 18-21 to
draw attention to the beauty and plight of Texas’ tallgrass
prairies and grasslands.

The symposium will be headquartered in Georgetown, TX
and is open to the public. A complete list of confirmed
